History

The Commissioner's Medal for Excellence is the Western Australia Police Force's honour for its highest performers: it recognises employees, sworn and unsworn alike, who have demonstrated excellence in service to the WA Police Force and the community of Western Australia, through a consistent contribution to the achievement of the force's goals and objectives.

Awards are processed by the WA Police Force Honours and Awards Unit alongside the force's other internal recognition, from the Cross for Bravery at the summit of its bravery suite to the certificates and citations beneath the medals. No clasps are issued: the medal stands alone, engraved on its reverse with the recipient's initials, surname and regimental number.

The medal

The medal is a circular bronze-gold coloured medal, 38 millimetres in diameter, surmounted by the Crown of Saint Edward. Eligibility

The medal recognises employees of the WA Police Force who have demonstrated excellence in service to the force and the community of Western Australia.

  • Sworn and unsworn employees are eligible, recognised for a consistent contribution to the achievement of the force's goals and objectives;
  • No clasps are issued with the medal, which is accompanied by a miniature and ribbon bar;
  • The medal sits outside the national honours system and carries no post-nominal.
First among the force's own: Within the WA Police Force's internal precedence the Commissioner's Medal for Excellence leads the wearable awards, ahead of the Police Star and the Service Medal. Like its counterparts in other forces it can share a rack with national recognition of the same career, most notably the Australian Police Medal. Details should be confirmed with the WA Police Force Honours and Awards Unit.

Order of wear

WA Police Force awards do not form part of the Australian honours system. They are worn separately from the national honours in the force's own order, with the WA Police Force dress policy governing their placement. On civilian racks they are mounted as a distinct group apart from the official awards.
